Eastern Japan Experiences Strong Earthquake, Tremors Reach Tokyo

(MENAFN) A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit eastern Japan’s Ibaraki prefecture on Wednesday, with tremors also felt in central Tokyo.

No tsunami warning has been issued, according to reports. The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake occurred at a depth of 50 kilometers (31 miles).

Authorities have not reported any casualties or major property damage. The Tokai No. 2 Nuclear Power Station in Ibaraki confirmed that no abnormalities were detected.

Shinkansen bullet train services between Tokyo and Aomori prefecture were briefly suspended following the tremor, but operations resumed after 10 minutes once no issues were found.
